The land where CATCH is now located had been neglected and attracted crime and anti-social behaviour for many years. There were several environmental issues including drug use and continuous fly-tipping.

In 2009 conversations about the land took place between CATCH’s founding members and local stakeholders who campaigned for its development, this led to several community clean-ups taking place over a two year period with support from the police, fire service, local schools, volunteers including young people and businesses. It soon became apparent at the scale of fly-tipping and drug use which had taken place due to all the discarded items left under the overgrown vegetation.
